Why They Call Me "The Cruiser Guy"
By Jacob (The Cruiser Guy) McFarland
If you own a Land Cruiser in Australia, you know that trust is the only currency that matters. You don't want a salesman telling you which winch to buy; you want the bloke who has spent 35 years fixing the broken ones in the middle of nowhere.
35 Years of Grease and Gears
My career started back in 1991. I was 18, fresh out of Knox Grammar School, and I walked straight into a Toyota workshop. Since that day, I haven’t looked back. I’ve spent over three and a half decades as a dedicated Toyota technician and mechanic in Sydney, watching these rigs evolve from basic workhorses to the high-tech machines they are today.
I’ve lived through the 80 Series era, mastered the 100s and 200s, and now I’m focused on keeping the newest Toyotas on the tracks at The Cruiser Store.
The "Cruiser Guy" Philosophy
I didn't give myself the nickname; the community did. It stuck because I live and breathe these vehicles. My approach is simple: Fix it right the first time. When you’re 500 clicks from the nearest town, "near enough" isn't good enough.
What You’ll Find Here
This blog is where I’ll be sharing the straight truth—no corporate fluff, just the facts on:
- Maintenance: What actually keeps a 70 Series alive for 500,000km.
- Diagnostics: Troubleshooting the complex issues that leave other shops scratching their heads.
- The Cruiser Store Builds: A behind-the-scenes look at the specialised rigs we’re fitting out.
If you see me at the shop or out bush, say g'day. I’m always up for a chat about a rig. You can find us at cruiserstore.au.
