Toyota Hilux N80 Bonnet Protector & Weather Shield FAQ
What's the difference between a bonnet protector and weather shields?
They do two different jobs. A bonnet protector clips to the front edge of your Hilux N80 bonnet and deflects stones, bugs and debris up over the windscreen — ideal for highway and dirt-road touring. Weather shields (window visors) mount above the side windows so you can leave them cracked for airflow without rain or wind buffeting entering the cabin.
Will these fit my Hilux N80?
Yes — both are vehicle-specific and moulded to the Hilux N80 body. Suits the 2015-onward N80 Hilux; match single, extra or dual cab for the side weather shields. They use the factory contours and existing mounting points, so a standard fit needs no cutting or drilling. Always confirm your exact body shape on the product page before ordering.
Are weather shields fitted inside or outside the window?
It depends on the style. Bolt-on visors sit on the outside of the door frame, secured with clips and automotive tape, while slimline in-channel shields tuck into the top of the window channel for a flush look. Both let you vent the cabin in the rain — it comes down to the appearance you prefer.
Will a bonnet protector damage or scratch my paint?
Not when fitted and maintained correctly. Quality protectors use rubber buffers that hold the shield off the paint. The key is to periodically remove built-up grit and wash underneath, since trapped dust and water are what cause rub marks over time — not the protector itself.
Are tinted bonnet protectors and weather shields legal in Australia?
Yes. Tinted acrylic bonnet protectors and side weather shields are road-legal across Australian states for normal use, as they sit outside the driver's primary line of sight while cutting glare and wind noise. If you run a heavily modified screen or unusual setup, check your state's vehicle standards for peace of mind.
