Land Cruiser 70 Series Bonnet Protector & Weather Shield FAQ
What's the difference between a bonnet protector and weather shields?
They solve two different problems. A bonnet protector is a tinted shield that clips onto the front edge of your 70 Series LandCruiser bonnet, deflecting stones, bugs and road debris up and over the windscreen — ideal for highway and dirt-road touring. Weather shields (also called window visors) mount above the side windows so you can leave them cracked for ventilation without letting rain or wind buffeting into the cabin.
Will these fit my 70 Series LandCruiser?
Both products are vehicle-specific and moulded to match the 70 Series LandCruiser body lines. Fitment differs across the 76 Wagon, 78 Troop Carrier and 79 Cab Chassis, and between single and dual cab — so match the shield to your exact body style. They use the factory contours and existing mounting points, so there's no cutting or drilling required for a standard fit. Always confirm your exact build and body shape on the product page before ordering.
Are weather shields fitted inside or outside the window?
It depends on the style. Traditional bolt-on visors sit on the outside of the door frame and are secured with clips and automotive tape, while slimline in-channel shields tuck neatly into the top of the window channel for a flush look. Both let you vent the cabin in the rain — the choice comes down to the appearance you prefer.
Will a bonnet protector damage or scratch my paint?
Not when fitted and maintained correctly. Quality protectors use rubber buffers and mounting points that hold the shield off the paint. The main thing is to periodically remove built-up grit and wash underneath, since trapped dust and water are what cause rub marks over time — not the protector itself.
Are tinted bonnet protectors and weather shields legal in Australia?
Yes. Tinted acrylic bonnet protectors and side weather shields are road-legal across Australian states for normal use, as they sit outside the driver's primary line of sight. They're designed to preserve visibility while cutting glare and wind noise. If you have a heavily modified screen or unusual setup, check your state's vehicle standards for peace of mind.
