Frequently Asked Questions

What is a recovery ring and when should I use it? +

A recovery ring (or snatch ring) is a lightweight, safer alternative to a traditional heavy snatch block. It is designed specifically for use with soft shackles and synthetic winch ropes, acting as a pulley to redirect winch lines during a recovery without the risk of heavy metal parts becoming projectiles.

Is the 10,000kg rating suitable for my vehicle? +

A 10,000kg (10-tonne) breaking strength is perfect for most 4WDs, including LandCruisers, Hilux, and other popular dual-cabs. It provides a significant safety margin for standard recovery situations. Always ensure your total recovery setup (winch, rope, and shackles) is compatible with this rating.

Can I use a steel wire rope with this ring? +

No. This recovery ring is specifically designed for use with synthetic winch ropes and soft shackles only. Using it with steel wire rope will cause excessive heat and abrasion, which can damage the ring's finish and prematurely compromise both the ring and the steel cable.

Why choose an alloy ring over a traditional snatch block? +

Alloy recovery rings are significantly lighter, have no moving parts to seize up with mud or sand, and are generally easier to store and handle. Because they are used with soft shackles, the entire system is much safer, eliminating the heavy steel components that can be dangerous if a failure occurs.

How do I maintain the recovery ring? +

Maintenance is minimal. After use, simply rinse the ring with fresh water to remove mud, salt, or grit. Inspect the surface for any sharp nicks or deep scratches before each use; if the surface becomes damaged or rough, it should be replaced to prevent abrasion on your soft shackles.
